Investigates the aerodynamic performance loss due to dent damage in an axial fan blade, suggesting implications for maintenance.
Foreign Object Damage (FOD) introduces external materials into the engine and can cause problems to fan blades in various forms. In this study, the aerodynamic performance loss caused by leading-edge dent damage on an axial fan blade was investigated using a baseline and three damaged models based on the NASA Stage 67 fan.The damaged configurations exhibited a maximum decrease of 1.2% in choking mass flow rate, 4.2% in total pressure ratio, and 5.4 percentage points in efficiency.Performance loss became more as the dent location moved from the hub toward the tip. This study presents the impact of dent damage on fan aerodynamic performance, providing damage limits and maintenance criteria in real engine.
