News bulletins detail field school excavation findings in Olympia, highlighting archaeological activities and discoveries.
These are the 2000 Pacific Northwest Archaeological Society (PNWAS) News Bulletins with activities of the society for that year. In 2000 we began a summer field school excavating the Mud Bay/Qwu?gwes archaeological wet site in Olympia with South Puget Sound Community College and the Squaxin Island Tribe. Members were invited to volunteer and several spent considerable time with us over the next 11 years of excavation. As can be seen by the News Bulletins, we found a preserved bark fiber gill net the first season (1999) which was a good kickoff for the joint project. We also heard about Easter Island, European Rock Art, and the Kennewick Man.
