Acupuncture treatment for ischemic stroke is characterized by multi-target and multi-pathway effects, involving various pathological processes of stroke. This article discusses the mechanisms of acupuncture in treating ischemic stroke from the perspectives of inflammatory response, programmed cell death (apoptosis, autophagy, ferroptosis, pyroptosis), oxidative stress, angiogenesis, and synaptic plasticity, aiming to provide insights and suggestions for future research.
