Prototype reveals broadside radiation and high isolation in a dual-polarized antenna array, suggesting improved communication performance.
A design for dual‐polarized antenna arrays with broadband operation and high isolation is proposed. The radiating element of the array is a flake‐shaped antenna with the dimensions of 10.8 × 0.25 × 6 mm 3 , and it can be mounted directly onto a circuit board of the feed network. Simulated results show that the impedance bandwidth of the radiating element is about 34% with respect to the center frequency of 12.5 GHz. Based on the broadband element, a 4 × 4 dual‐polarized array excited with two corporate feed networks is developed, and a prototype is fabricated. Measured results demonstrate that the array at each polarization state has broadside radiation with the maximum gain of 19 dBi; besides, a port‐to‐port isolation of more than 40 dB are achieved. The experimental results also have good agreements with the simulated data.
