Mentorship enhances leadership skills in surgeons, highlighting the importance of education for growth.
The Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) recognizes the critical need for health care leadership and the complex nature of leading teams. Although the surgeon is often the de facto leader in the operating room, leadership education and training during residency and early practice are lacking. While our growth as a leader generally increases over time, mentorship, sponsorship and education play a bi‐directional role in personal and professional development as we progress through the various stages of the professional leadership development continuum. AANA strives to bridge this gap in leadership education through various programs, experiences, and opportunities that serve to enhance the surgeon's ability to provide meaningful organizational impact.
