Survey research reveals challenges in digital preservation in Comoros, indicating significant engagement disparities.
Digital cultural heritage preservation in resource-limited environments such as Comoros poses unique challenges due to limited infrastructure and funding. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative survey data was employed to gather insights from local communities, cultural institutions, and government officials in Comoros. The sample included 150 respondents across various regions of the country. Findings indicate a significant disparity between urban and rural areas regarding technological resources and community engagement levels (32% vs. 18%, respectively). The survey revealed that while there is some level of awareness about digital preservation, substantial gaps exist in terms of practical implementation and resource allocation. Recommendations include the establishment of a national digital cultural heritage council to oversee initiatives, increased funding for technology upgrades, and community-based training programmes to enhance local capacity.
