This work demonstrates the capabilities of fiber end-face metasurfaces in sensing and beam manipulation, suggesting advancements in photonic devices.
Fiber end‐face metasurfaces represent an emerging frontier in integrated photonics, combining the advanced light‐field manipulation capabilities of metasurfaces with the robust transmission properties of optical fibers, and enabling compact, high‐performance photonic devices. These devices trace the route to beam shaping, polarization control, vortex generation, and high‐sensitivity sensing. This work starts by presenting several available fabrication methods in nanoscale. Two‐photon polymerization (TPP) laser direct writing stands out for its true 3D processing capability, enabling complex, multi‐dimensional control of amplitude, phase, and polarization in a single device. Then, applications of fiber end‐face metasurfaces spanning from surface plasmonics, vector beam generation, beam control to sensing, are discussed. Such additive manufacturing based metasurfaces can overcome challenges in dynamic reconfigurability and scalable integration, and paves the way for next‐generation miniaturized photonic systems. These systems will impact communication, sensing, imaging, and quantum technologies.
