Experimental and computational study demonstrates efficient transformation of a natural product, impacting preclinical development.
The acid-catalyzed conversion of 3-dihydrodiscorhabdin B through a thiocarbenium iminium dication to aleutianamine, a potent cytotoxic pyrroloiminoquinone alkaloid natural product, greatly increases the recovery of aleutianamine from the marine invertebrate Latrunculia spp. found in the cold, deep ocean along the Aleutian Archipelago. This transformation will help provide the material necessary for its preclinical development. More in Communication (e7864883), Cody F. Dickinson, Mark T. Hamann, and co-workers.
