This technique demonstrates an innovative method to modify alkenes using cobalt, implying potential for varied organic syntheses.
Herein, a photo/cobalt-catalyzed hydroheteroarylation of unactivated alkenes via hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) initiated distal heteroaryl migration is disclosed. Readily available N-phenylsubstituted benzo-[b]phenothiazine (PTH) is chosen as organophotocatalyst and Hantzsch ester is used as hydride source. Various γ-/δ-heteroaryl substituted aliphatic ketones are successfully obtained in moderate to good yields at room temperature. The reaction characterizes mild reaction conditions and broad substrate scope.
