This experiment demonstrates precise methods to determine freezing-point depression in glucose solutions, suggesting advancements in physical chemistry education.
We outline a modern method for a freezing-point depression experiment for the physical chemistry laboratory. Freezing-point temperatures of glucose solutions in water are determined with a computer-interfaced temperature probe. Molal concentrations of glucose in the solutions are determined by refractive index. These measurements are used to compute the cryoscopic constant of water.
