There are multiple reasons why bleeding may occur in the dental setting. This article offers an overview of the pathogenesis of haemostasis and outlines the most common causes of coagulopathy. It aims to support primary care dental clinicians with identification of those at risk of bleeding, offer evidence-based guidance on safe practice and outline strategies for managing post-extraction haemorrhage should it occur.
