Background: Cone beam computed tomography of condylar morphology enhances diagnostic accuracy and informs clinical management of TMJ disorders. It also aids in establishing normative data critical for identifying morphological deviations. Objective: Proposing a modified classification for Yale et al ., (1963) using cone beam computed tomography. Methods: A total of 123 patients (192 joints) with an age range of 11-73 years were examined retrospectively on cone beam computed tomography. The superior surface of the condyle was examined in right, left or both sides on coronal sections according to Yale et al ., (1963) classification as well as, the condylar morphology was assessed in relation to age and gender. Statistical analysis was done using Microsoft excel and Minitab software. Results: Round-shaped condyle in females, and convex with angled in males were the most predominant. A new superior surface morphology was found named as reversed angle. Conclusion: Along with the differences between genders, convex surface was the most predominant shape in the sample. Reversed angle superior surface condyle is a new shape that may be added to the Yale et al ., (1963) classification for further refine to its accuracy and applicability.
