Survey reveals students' motivations for selecting history over geography, indicating diverse interests.
History education in Seychelles is seen as unpopular amongst the senior high school students. The number of students who choose history as an optional subject and those who sit for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) history examination is low compared to geography. Result from questionnaire administered show that most students prefer to choose the geography subject because it is related to their career choices, which is classified as an extrinsic motive. However, we saw that majority of the students who chose history had an intrinsic motive for doing so which was it was interesting, and they enjoyed it.
