Lipid Management in a Japanese Community:Attainment Rate of Target Set by the Japan Atherosclerosis Society Guidelines for the Prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases 2012
Analysis assesses lipid management target attainment in community, highlighting inadequacies in specific health groups.
Key Points
This research aims to evaluate how well individuals in a Japanese community meet lipid management targets set by the Japan Atherosclerosis Society guidelines.
Included 85,716 subjects aged 40–74 from Kanazawa city who underwent specific health checkups from 2012 to 2014.
Assessed attainment rates of lipid management targets defined by the JAS2012 guidelines.
Investigated clinical characteristics of individuals who did not meet targets.
The LDL-C target was the least attained, with rates of 89%, 72%, 50%, and 34% for risk categories I, II, III, and secondary prevention respectively in 2014.
Lower attainment rates were observed in higher risk categories (p-value for trends <0.001).
Individuals with suspected CKD had significantly lower LDL-C attainment rates compared to those with other conditions (49.2% vs. higher percentages).
Subjects not on lipid-lowering therapy showed lower LDL-C attainment rates than those receiving treatment (27.7% vs. 40.6% in secondary prevention).
