Population
Hypertensive adults, including those aged 60 years or older, those 30 through 59 years of age, and those with diabetes or nondiabetic chronic kidney disease (CKD).
I
Intervention
Antihypertensive medications (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, angiotensin receptor blocker, calcium channel blocker, or thiazide-type diuretic) targeted to specific blood pressure goals.
The 2014 guideline establishes evidence-based blood pressure targets and initial pharmacological therapies for the management of hypertension in adults.
Limitations
- Insufficient evidence in hypertensive persons younger than 60 years for a systolic goal, or in those younger than 30 years for a diastolic goal
