The methanolic extract of the fresh fruit shells of Coelocaryon preussii was studied to highlight its bioactive components. The investigation led to the isolation and identification of an inositol derivative named myo-inositol. The structure of this compound which was isolated for the first time from this species was established on the basis of its IR, NMR and Mass analyses. The evaluation of the antioxidant activity of this compound using the DPPH method gave a relatively interesting activity (IC50 = 34.8 µg/mL) compared to the reference compounds, vitamin C (IC50 = 5.3 µg/mL) and quercetin (IC50 = 3.1 µg/mL).
