Analysis of MPLS and Frame Relay Impact on VPN Performance, indicating MPLS as a superior choice.
Multiprotocol Label Switching is widely used and recognized tunneling technology that is used by many enterprise business organizations. The most common MPLS application today is Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). The use of VPNs has increased over the past few years as enterprises are much concerned about the secure communication of their office different sites over the internet. WAN technologies like Frame Relay and MPLS can be used to carry for the configuration of VPN over it to carry the enterprises data. The emphasis of researcher is to analyze the different parameters namely data rate, bit rate, average end-to-end delay, throughput and packet control overhead. Considering the stated parameters we can suggest the better WAN technology for the VPN. Data have been mainly collected from the live configured environment that we have build and configure using different network devices, servers and end stations. The data that we have study and evaluate in this study research is at the conclusion that MPLS based VPN are the more secure and stable option for enterprise network. If an application works well on a Frame Relay, it will work better using MPLS, If an application not performs adequately on VPN over Frame Relay and results in packet loss or delay, MPLS will be right solution.
