Patients with node-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2–positive breast cancer

Intervention

Doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel plus trastuzumab (ACP plus trastuzumab) as adjuvant therapy

Comparator

Doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel (ACP) as adjuvant therapy

Outcome

Cardiac function and late development of congestive heart failure (CHF)safety

The addition of trastuzumab to ACP chemotherapy has a favorable risk-benefit profile, with late development of CHF being uncommon at 7-year follow-up.

Abstract

The late development of CHF after the addition of trastuzumab to paclitaxel after doxorubicin/ cyclophosphamide chemotherapy is uncommon. The risk versus benefit of trastuzumab as given in this regimen remains strongly in favor of trastuzumab.
