Key Points

  • To explore the feasibility of thoracoscopic repair for iatrogenic innominate artery injury during VATS.
  • Document a case of an iatrogenic innominate artery injury during VATS lymph node dissection.
  • Describe the surgical approach taken for thoracoscopic repair.
  • Highlight the importance of rapid multidisciplinary support during the procedure.
  • Successful repair of the innominate artery injury using thoracoscopy was achieved.
  • The approach avoided the need for thoracotomy, which is a more invasive procedure.

Abstract

We report a 64-year-old male with iatrogenic innominate artery Haemorrhage during video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lymph node dissection, who underwent successful thoracoscopic repair. For centers with experienced minimally invasive thoracic surgeons and rapid multidisciplinary support, thoracoscopic repair of such injury is feasible and can avoid thoracotomy.
