In reviewing technologies for electric discharge machining (EDM) used in microelectronics, the aerospace industry, and elsewhere, attention focuses on three aspects: microscopic hole piercing (hole diameter <100 µm); cutting and grinding of test incisions for the material used in production of PD-14 engines; and microscopic milling by electric discharge machining. The advantages and disadvantages of existing EDM methods are analyzed, and optimal approaches for specific problems are sought.
