Research and observable climate impacts point almost unequivocally to the need for a larger and faster climate mitigation effort that includes capturing and permanently storing CO2 both from large sources and from the atmosphere directly. Carbon capture and storage technologies are mature and available, with considerable real-world experience, but their deployment is still limited. We examine why this is so and suggest viable path forward.
