Watching Brief at Llanwern, Solar Farm, Caldicot Levels

The archaeology of the application site as a whole, in its wider local or regional context, w as considered, although the watching brief was confined to those areas that we re directly affected by the development or some aspect of it. A ll remains of potential interest w ere considered, whatever their date. All ground level reduction/landscaping , excavation for installation of foundations and below ground services ; with the potential to impact on archaeology resources through removal of topsoil and subsoil deposits w ere closely monitored by the watching brief archaeologist This document is the report on an Archaeological Watching Brief , undertaken during ground disturbance works necessary for the installation of a Solar Farm Sub Station and access track, on the Caldicot Levels . Ltd was contracted by ethical power connections Ltd to undertake the work following a Written Scheme of Investigation drawn up by Savills (UK) ltd in response to a planning condition from Newport City Council.
