The paper analyzes various aspects of the impact of future technologies on the maritime labor market. The aim of the paper is to provide a unique view of the participants and paths of professional development of maritime personnel, in order to become capable of successfully carrying out the process of technological transformation, while ensuring the development of their own career. The research methodology is based on critical analysis of data content, synthesis of findings and qualitative-descriptive approach in presenting results and drawing conclusions. The research identified two key challenges facing the maritime industry - predicting the missing knowledge and skills of seafarers and, consequently, qualified experts for high-tech maritime. In response to the challenges, an attempt was made to synthesize potential answers - defining the necessary competencies for efficient, effective and safe shipping in the future, as well as ways in which they will be achieved. Key findings from a technological-social-economic point of view are presented in the conclusions. Additional issues of the impact of future technologies on the lifelong career of maritime personnel, which require further consideration in searching solutions, are raised at the end of this paper.
