Proposed design method enhances efficiency and bandwidth in a power amplifier using a bandpass filter.
In this paper, a design method of broadband high‐efficiency power amplifier (PA) with a bandpass filtering characteristics is proposed. A bandpass filter (BPF) and hybrid extended continuous mode (HECM) are combined to achive significant enhancements in both operating bandwidth and efficiency. Especially, this bandpass filter integrates three coupled lines and open/short stubs to achieve low insertion loss and high selectivity. To verify the proposed methodology, a PA operating at 2–4 GHz is designed with a 10‐W GaN HEMT. The measurement results demonstrate that the proposed design achieves a saturated output power from 39.8 to 42.4 dBm, drain efficiency from 57.5% to 65.2%, and a large signal gain between 11.8 and 14.4 dB.
