Special issue explores predictors and biomarkers for cognitive decline in mild cognitive impairment, highlighting implications for early diagnosis.
This special issue features seven papers focussed on refining our understanding of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).Consistent with the journal's mandate, all papers are open access and available to download and are from diverse regions including the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, Taiwan and China.Three of these papers have a longitudinal focus, the first looking at whether baseline neuropsychiatric symptom (NPS) burden predicts onset of cognitive decline, the second looking at how residential status affects cognitive decline and the third looking at decline in decision-making among patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).Two papers focused on cognitive assessment batteries, one looking at exploratory and confirmatory analyses of an existing cognitive test battery and the second comparing cognitive tests in differentiating MCI from dementia and normal cognition. Finally, two papers focused on biomarkers of MCI, including using EEG and functional connectivity studies to enhance diagnostic precision and understanding of MCI and associated NPS.
