Randomized trial assesses architectural features of Abbey Barn, indicating historical significance for preservation.
A programme of Historic Building Recording was undertaken prior to the reconstruction of a Grade II Listed barn at Abbey Barn, Courtyard, West Acre, Norfolk. The work comprising a photographic survey and elevation drawing preceded conversion for use as a brewery. Owing to the instability of the gable, all recording was carried out remotely using a drone and a reflectorless total station to record reference points on the structure. The survey revealed a significant quantity of architectural stone incorporated into the fabric of the building, which raises the possibility of an early post medieval date of construction, after the dissolution and the demolition of large parts of the monastery.
