Investigates vibration-assisted drilling for material stacks, indicating improvements in production efficiency.
The structural components of aircraft often consist of material packages, which include carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP) and metals such as aluminum or titanium. These components are primarily joined by rivets. The production of rivet holes presents a significant challenge here due to the different material properties involved. In the Smart Drilling Cell project, vibration-assisted drilling methods for processing material stacks as well as monitoring techniques for this process are investigated.
