Evaluates the impact of reinforcement ribs on local buckling strength in aluminium alloy tubes, suggesting a new assessment formula.
Aluminium alloy is one of the materials used as a structural member. Aluminium members are produced by extrusion due to their workability, allowing for unique profiles to be created based on demand. Aluminium has a lighter weight per cubic meter than steel, but it is more costly. Thus, the structure made of aluminium components must be efficiently designed to maximize material usage. Aluminium's excellent extrusion workability enables the enhancement of profile efficiency through the addition of stiffeners for reinforcement during production. This study will evaluate the reinforcement provided by ribs on the plate and propose a formula to assess the equivalent width‐to‐thickness ratio of the ribbed plate.
