Older age was associated with reduced nocturnal HF variability via less deep sleep; leaves open causal links to CV outcomes.
Does aging and cardiac denervation affect heart rate variability during sleep?
Aging impairs the nocturnal increase in cardiac vagal activity due to the loss of deep sleep, while mechanical breathing changes during sleep independently increase high-frequency oscillations of the RR interval.
