Validates an Arabic screening tool for body dysmorphic disorder in rhinoplasty patients, indicating improved preoperative assessments.
Background: The prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) among rhinoplasty patients underscores the need for valid screening tools. The BDD Questionnaire-Aesthetic Surgery (BDDQ-AS) is a reliable instrument, but its adaptation and validation in Arabic-speaking populations are lacking. Study Aim: This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Arabic version of the BDDQ-AS for use in rhinoplasty patients in Arabic-speaking regions. Methodology: The BDDQ-AS was translated following the International Guidelines for Translating and Adapting Tests. Content validity was assessed by six experts, and face validity was evaluated through interviews with 10 Arabic-speaking general ENT patients. Reliability was determined using Cronbach’s alpha and test–retest analysis. Results: The translated Arabic BDDQ-AS demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.87) and satisfactory test–retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.38). Content and face validity assessments yielded positive outcomes, with 90% of participants finding the questionnaire clear and relevant. Conclusion: The Arabic version of the BDDQ-AS is a valid and reliable screening tool for identifying BDD in rhinoplasty patients in Arabic-speaking populations. Its integration into clinical practice can aid in preoperative assessments and improve patient care outcomes.
