Randomized trial investigates AI's impact on lesson planning in pre-service EFL teacher education, suggesting pedagogical innovations.
The project AI-augmented lesson planning in EFL teacher education investigates how the increasing availability of artificial intelligence reshapes the professional practice of lesson planning and how this transformation can be pedagogically framed within EFL teacher education. Conceptually, the project positions AI not as a substitute for pedagogical expertise but as a mediating tool within complex decision-making processes. It thereby connects current debates on digital transformation with established perspectives on teacher professionalization, emphasizing reflective practice, critical AI literacy, and context-sensitive instructional design. Situated within the German EFL teacher education context yet oriented toward international discussions, the project aims to develop a theoretically grounded and transferable framework for understanding and shaping AI-augmented lesson planning in EFL. This project milestone presents a reflective framework for AI-augmented lesson planning that conceptualizes how artificial intelligence can be integrated into pedagogical decision-making processes in EFL teacher education while maintaining a strong focus on teacher agency and professional judgment.
