Randomized trial analyzes tree-ring data from timber structures in North Kent, indicating distinct felling periods.
Scientific dating of archaeological timbers SUMMARY In 2019 a total of 13 cross-sectional slices were obtained from three groups of timbers exposed on the foreshore in Kent. Ten of these samples cross-matched against each other to form a site master chronology. The site master chronology dated against a range of previously dated reference chronologies indicating a likely single local source for the timbers. The timbers clearly represent two separate felling episodes, with six timbers from the eastern and northern groups dating to the first decade of the sixth century AD and four timbers from the western group dating to the late sixth century AD.
