Tree ring analysis dates construction and alterations in a historical timber structure, indicating its age and changes over time.
Tree ring analysis of timbers from Lands Head Farm was carried out in order to date the construction of, and later alterations to, the building. The results of analysis showed that a timber framed aisled hall was built on the site using timbers felled in AD 1580. The hall was subsequently altered and enlarged at sometime in the 17th century. A single timber from this later phase has a felling date of after AD 1637.
