Study digitizes original lecture notes on skull anatomy for educational continuity, suggesting modern standards.
DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.20001505 Anatomy of the Skull: Lecture Notes for Students (1992) Anatomia czaszki: kompendium edukacyjne (1992) Jacek Lorkowski SummaryThis study represents a bilingual digitalization of my original lecture notes from the 1990s on the anatomy of the skull (anatomia cranii). It was prepared by the author using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, which allowed for the preservation of the original form of the teaching material. Digitalization via OCR was not only a technical challenge for the author but, above all, a way to maintain the continuity of scientific materials and adapt them to contemporary digital standards. The main goal of this edition was to preserve the substantive value of the original studies. The content of the document includes a detailed presentation of the structure of the neurocranium (neurocranium) and viscerocranium (viscerocranium), with particular emphasis on the sphenoid, ethmoid, and temporal bones. A significant portion of the study is devoted to the anatomy of the middle and internal ear, including a description of the tympanic cavity, auditory ossicles, and the bony and membranous labyrinths. Furthermore, the compendium contains a comprehensive summary of the cranial nerves (I–XII) along with their nuclei and the neuronal structure of the special sensory pathways (auditory and vestibular). The entire anatomical nomenclature has been verified and updated in accordance with the current international classification, Terminologia Anatomica. The text has been enriched with selected, significant clinical correlations, such as the topography of the cavernous sinus or the specific features of the structure of the auditory tube in children. Keywords: anatomy of the skull, neurocranium, viscerocranium, middle ear, internal ear, cranial nerves, sensory pathways, paranasal sinuses, anatomical nomenclature.
