Current Status of Enhanced Publication Practices of Academic Database Platforms Comparing China to Other Countries

Enhanced publication expands the content of papers by the comprehensive use of entity linking, visualization, scripting languages, and other technologies, presenting them in a more intuitive, vivid, and richer way. This effectively enhances researchers’ ability to understand academic papers and improves efficiency in acquiring knowledge. Based on a survey of the enhanced publication practices on CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure‌) and four other international academic database platforms that allow readers to access scholarly publication sources (Elsevier ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, Taylor from the perspective of Metrics Showcasing, Elsevier ScienceDirect does not support the display of any literature evaluation metrics; from the perspective of Access to Supplementary Materials, Wiley Online Library does not support viewing or downloading any supplementary materials. Based on the findings, the paper points out directions for the future development of enhanced publication for these academic database platforms.
