This review evaluates deskilling and development trajectories in robotics and office automation technologies, implying better practices for complex network implementation.
The paper reviews the conceptualisation and use of three existing technologies - Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools, robotics and office automation, and one emerging technology - Computer-Aided Production Management (CAPM). Existing frameworks, whether of imperatives (such as deskilling) or trajectories of development are oversimplified and unhelpful both as theories and as guides to practice. Detailed examination of the implementation processes of these technologies highlights initial research and policy issues in the implementation of organisationally complex network technologies.
