Experimental evidence shows hydrogen atom transfer facilitates alkenylation of cyclic ethers, suggesting new synthetic routes.
A sustainable oxidative alkenylation of simple ethers to construct allylic ethers was achieved using iodine (III) as a feasible dehydrogenation agent in the presence of KBr. Notably, open‐chain ethers were also found to be efficient coupling partners in this reaction and are likely to proceed via a radical process. Hydrogen atom transfer from ethers to radicals is supported by both experimental and computational studies. This reaction provides good yields and broad functional group compatibility, along with simple operation and mild conditions.
