Noboru Mizushima is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Tokyo, Japan, where he runs a laboratory studying the mechanisms and physiological functions of autophagy and other degradation processes. In addition to running a research group, Professor Mizushima is the current President of the Japan Society for Cell Biology, which was established in 1950 and has continued to maintain a membership of over 1000 cell biologists.
