Technical specifications guide pharmacists in dispensing aerosol Chinese patent medicines in emergency settings, indicating quality standards.
The Technical Specifications for Dispensing Commonly Used Chinese Patent Medicines in Clinical Emergency and Critical Care (Aerosol), one of the series of Technical Specifications for Dispensing Commonly Used Chinese Patent Medicines in Clinical Emergency and Critical Care, was supported by the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China (Project No. 2019YFC1712002), titled “Research, Evaluation, and Formulation of International Standards for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)”. Under the guidance of the TCM Dispensing Standardization Research Center of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, it was approved as a group standard revision project by the China Association of Chinese Medicine in January 2020. A total of 15 leading hospitals, universities, and research institutions nationwide participated in the drafting process. The specification was officially released by the China Association of Chinese Medicine on January 11, 2022. This technical specification, through literature review, expert consultation, questionnaires, and other methods, systematically organizes and specifies requirements for the purchase and acceptance inspection, inventory management, prescription review, prescription dispensing, prescription verification, drug distribution and medication instruction, medication monitoring, prescription evaluation, and pharmacovigilance of aerosol Chinese patent medicines before, during, and after dispensing. It also elaborates on the scope of the dispensing technical specifications, normative references, terms and definitions, dosage form dispensing requirements, key technical aspects of dosage forms, and representative drugs. To better guide the implementation of this technical specification, this study interprets it from the aspects of its formulation process, key technical content, and practical application examples, with the aim of guiding pharmacists to dispense aerosol TCM according to physicians’ prescriptions in clinical emergency and critical care settings and to provide high-quality dispensing services.
