A simple model is proposed to explain the ferroelectric domain inversion which occurs in LiNbO3 during high-temperature processes. This domain inversion is believed to be due to a space-charge electric field resulting from a Nb....Li defect gradient and the associated free electrons, which are produced by the Li outdiffusion associated with such high-temperature processes.
