Compares efficiency of two solar configurations under partial shading, suggesting optimal setups.
The main objective of this paper is investigating the effects of partial shading on power output of two configurations customary of Solar Photovoltaic Array (SPVA). The efficiency of a SPVA is affected by temperature, solar insolation and shading, as well as array configuration which also has a significant impact on the efficiency of a SPVA. This situation becomes more complicated when the array is exposed to partial shading as well as when a part or the whole module of the PV array receives uniform irradiation. These problems lead to mismatch problem in SPVA. As a result, to minimize the effect of mismatched array, a proper configuration modules in SPVA is required. This paper presents carried out on two configurations by examining four main partial shading scenarios. A generalized MATLAB M-code based software model has been used for any required array size, configuration and shading patterns. Two configurations of PV array are analyzed and tested for comparison, containing series-parallel and total-cross-tied configuration.
