Investigates temperature distribution and wind circulation in urban street canyons during heat waves, suggesting implications for urban planning.
In this work, acoustic tomography and numerical simulations are combined to investigate microclimate dynamics in an urban street canyon during a heat wave, with emphasis on temperature distribution and wind circulation. The study focuses on characterizing Urban Heat Island (UHI) intensities and identifying non-laminar wind flow circulation influenced by urban street canyon geometry. The measured results are compared to numerical simulations. The numerical simulations are based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of the local temperature and wind profiles within an urban street canyon. The acoustic data provide detailed travel-time variations linked to elevated temperatures and complex flow conditions. At the same time, the CFD results offer insight into the underlying mechanisms driving UHI hot spots and wind flow behavior. The experimental and numerical approaches contribute to a deeper understanding of urban atmospheric processes during extreme heat events.
