Key result
Higher HALP score linked to ~14% lower short-term mortality in ICU heart failure patients.
Why the study?
Is a higher HALP score associated with reduced ICU/hospital length of stay and mortality in patients with heart failure admitted to the ICU?
Population
4286 patients with heart failure admitted to the intensive care unit, average age 73.12 years, 41.8% female.
Comparison
Higher hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and… vs Lower HALP score
Design
Cohort
Follow-up
365 days

Zhen et al. (2026) conducted a cohort in Heart failure (n=4,286). Hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score vs. Lower HALP scores was evaluated on ICU length of stay, hospital length of stay, 28-day mortality, and 365-day mortality. Each 10-unit increase in HALP score was associated with a 0.19-day reduction in ICU length of stay and a 14% reduction in short-term mortality in ICU patients with heart failure.
