Prior AF is linked to ~180% greater odds of VF before PPCI in STEMI.
Case-Control (n=660)
Yes
Effect estimate: OR 2.80 (95% CI 1.10-7.30)
History of atrial fibrillation and heavy alcohol consumption are newly identified risk factors for ventricular fibrillation before primary PCI in patients presenting with their first STEMI.

May inform VF risk stratification in STEMI; leaves open whether modifying AF or alcohol reduces incidence.
Jabbari et al. (2015) conducted a case-control in ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) (n=660). Risk factors (atrial fibrillation, alcohol consumption) vs. Controls without preceding ventricular fibrillation was evaluated on Ventricular fibrillation before primary percutaneous coronary intervention (OR 2.80, 95% CI 1.10-7.30). A history of atrial fibrillation (OR 2.80; 95% CI 1.10-7.30) and alcohol consumption >15 units/week (OR 3.30; 95% CI 1.80-5.90) were associated with increased odds of VF before PPCI in STEMI.
