An archaeological investigation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in January, 2017, at Keephatch, Beech Lane, Wokingham. Seven small areas were excavated, and a watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a haul road. Artefactual evidence indicated three distinguishable phases of activity, with features dating principally to the Iron Age and medieval periods. Iron Age boundary ditches were recorded in one area. The majority of ditches found in other excavation areas appeared to be land boundaries of medieval and post-medieval date, and some corresponded with features depicted on 19th century mapping. Undated, isolated postholes with an irregular pit were found in two other areas, and a posthole alignment was recorded in another. These features appear likely to be of late prehistoric date.
