Scoping review maps pharmacogenomic factors influencing antihypertensive drug response in diverse Australian populations.
Why the study?
Genetic polymorphisms affecting drug metabolism and pharmacodynamic pathways may contribute to variability in antihypertensive response, dosing requirements, and adverse reactions across diverse populations.
This scoping review protocol outlines a plan to map evidence on pharmacogenomic factors affecting antihypertensive drug response in Australia's diverse populations to inform precision prescribing and health equity.

Highlights gaps in pharmacogenomic data for antihypertensive response in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; leaves open the need for targeted studies before clinical integration.
This scoping review will map and synthesise existing evidence on pharmacogenomic factors influencing antihypertensive drug response among ethnically diverse populations relevant to Australia, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Genetic polymorphisms affecting drug metabolism and pharmacodynamic pathways may contribute to variability in treatment response, dosing requirements, and adverse drug reactions. Using the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) framework, this review will identify key enzymes and antihypertensive drug classes implicated in pharmacogenomic variability and assess the representation of diverse populations in existing research. Findings will inform future research and highlight implications for precision prescribing and health equity in hypertension management.

Blossom Eghonghon Kelvin Odigie (2026) conducted a review in Hypertension. Antihypertensive therapy was evaluated on Pharmacogenomic variability in treatment response, dosing requirements, and adverse drug reactions. This scoping review will map existing evidence on pharmacogenomic factors influencing antihypertensive drug response among ethnically diverse populations relevant to Australia.
