Abstract High-temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells require electrolytes that maintain high proton conductivity and acid retention above 100 °C under anhydrous conditions. We design phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole composite membranes containing phosphorylated cellulose nanofibers coated with poly(vinylphosphonic acid) .
