Abstract:Inclusive education advocates improvement of schools in all dimensions to fulfil theeducational needs of all children. It recommends that children with special needs should placein regular classrooms and provided with the necessary services and support. In spite ofseveral endeavour made by the Government and other educational agencies in India, thedream of inclusive education for all students with special needs remains unfulfilled. Thisresearch paper discusses the historical background of inclusion in education and thedevelopment of policies related to inclusive education in India and the challenges inimplementation of these policies. It also suggests recommendations for improvements inimplementation of inclusive education.
