Archaeological evaluation identifies Iron Age and Post Medieval features in Whaddon, suggesting historical land use patterns.
The evaluation comprised the excavation of 44 evaluation trenches, all measuring 1.8m in width and 30m in length, targeting various anomalies highlighted by previous geophysical survey. The evaluation found an Iron Age to 2nd century AD enclosure ditch with indications of domestic activity, late Iron Age to 2nd century AD sub-rectangular and rectangular field systems, a possible Post Medieval trackway, and Post Medieval field boundaries corresponding to 1841 Tithe mapping.
