Key result
In-hospital heart failure complicates ~13% of incident AMIs and is linked to higher mortality.
Why the study?
What are the time trends and mortality risks associated with ischemic heart failure complicating incident acute myocardial infarction?

What are the time trends and mortality risks associated with ischemic heart failure complicating incident acute myocardial infarction?
Between 2000 and 2009 in Denmark, the incidence of severe heart failure complicating acute MI declined, but outpatient HF diagnoses increased, and both in-hospital and post-discharge HF remained associated with significantly higher mortality.

Sulo et al. (2019) conducted a cohort in incident acute myocardial infarction (n=78,814). Time trend (per year) was evaluated on In-hospital heart failure (OR 0.991, 95% CI 0.983-0.999). In-hospital heart failure complicated 13.0% of incident acute myocardial infarctions, with odds declining 0.9% per year (OR 0.991; 95% CI 0.983-0.999), but was associated with higher mortality.
